The Clinician Manual contains all the materials necessary to help primary care clinicians implement innovations of the Three Component Model of depression management. Specific components of 3CM that are covered include:
- An easy to use combined depression diagnostic and severity instrument, the PHQ-9;
- Telephone care management support to promote patient adherence to the management plan;
- A strategy for monitoring response to treatment and modification of the plan, if indicated, to achieve and maintain remission of depression; and
- A partnership, to assist the patient, among the primary care clinician, a care manager, and mental health specialists.
The Manual serves as a useful resource guide for using the PHQ-9, selecting and managing antidepressants, diagnostic tools, patient education materials, and counseling strategies.
